The Taiwanese film The Great Buddha+ (大佛普拉达) won the Cinemasia Film Festival Student Jury Award tonight. CRTV asked the maker of this film, Huang Hsin-yao, about his opinions on Buddhism and his inspirations for making this film. Listen to our interview in Mandarin to find out more.

In intense one-on-one interviews, Huang asks her mother probing questions that she would not be able to ask without the filtering distance of her camera. This documentary won the Teddy Award at Berlin Film Festival.

A 16-year-old loner is struggling to find love in his life. His mother abandoned him at an early age, and his unemployed father wallows in a drunken stupor. He becomes invigorated, however, when he has an intriguing encounter with a middle-aged woman (Carina Lau) by a swimming pool and subsequently finds out she’s his new substitute teacher. The two start spending time together — their longing and fear of abandonment making their friendship take a forbidden turn.

East meets West Chinese New Year’s concert in Rotterdam

Year of the Dog 4Rotterdam Chinese New Year opened the Year of the Dog with a splendid East meets West Chinese New Year’s concert by jazz singer Lan Lan with Codarts Alumni Association. The halls in De Doelen were decorated by statues of dogs painted by Dutch and Chinese artists. After the opening with a lion dance, a special 8-courses VIP diner was organized by chef cooks. The concert was opened by three lions dancing in front of the stage. Lan Lan covered many classic Chinese songs with Codarts Alumni Association. Today, the exhibition Lines in Motion – East meets West was opened at CBK Amsterdam. CRTV spoke with two young artists, See Wan (Iris) Tsang and Sze Wai Wong. Both graduated in Fine Arts from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Iris searches her origin by painting on fabrics, while Sze Wai reflects on herself by painting on canvas. What does East meets West mean for them?
