Made in China: A unique view of Chinese art during Qing dynasty

From 23 September 2017, MOA | Museum Oud Amelisweerd is presenting the exhibition Made in China – Armando & masterpieces of the Qing dynasty. In a year when many museums are focusing on China, Made in China is distinguished by its focus on classical Chinese painting and calligraphy and a very diverse selection of export art. Also represented in the exhibition is Armando, whose work displays a surprising number of similarities to Chinese art of the eighteenth century.
Old crafts, new design from China

The Chinese bag brand, Bampo, is making its debut on the European market with an exhibition at the Museum of Bags and Purses between 27 June and 24 September 2017. Bampo has been translating traditional Chinese culture and crafts into modern designs for twenty years. Bampo’s mission is to contribute to preserving Chinese culture and passing it on to future generations. The items that will soon be on display at the Museum of Bags and Purses represent an important aspect of Chinese culture and philosophy.
Zhang Dali: Body and Soul

This summer, in the main hall of museum Beelden aan Zee a major retrospective will be exhibited of characteristic works of the Chinese performance artist, graffiti artist and sculptor Zhang Dali (Harbin, 1963). The group sculpture of 18 nude, everyday Chinese, which have been carved in the finest marble, will be seen for the first time in Europe. In the middle of the hall will stand a large, unique installation, created from scaffolding material. Zhang Dali is one of China’s most renowned sculptors, and this occasion will be his first retrospective in Europe. Zhang Dali is an important figure in the Chinese art world. This well-known artist is also primarily a promoter of humanitarianism and compassion in the hard lives of millions of Chinese.

Elegant brushstrokes with an instant appeal to the imagination: Chinese characters have something truly magical about them. Not only because of their intrinsic beauty –to Western eyes at least – but also because of their wonderful symbolism and the often extraordinary stories they can tell. From 25 March, the Gemeentemuseum lets Chinese porcelain speak for itself by unravelling the mysteries behind the characters inscribed on it. China Character is an exhibition replete with stories that will transport you to different parts of China. Stories of customs, beliefs, love, mythical figures and historical events.
