Chang, who is also the Chairperson of the Golden Horse, and Wen Tien-Hsiang 天祥, the head of the Executive of the Golden Horse Committee, will officiate the opening of this special focus programme followed by the screening of the film.

The Focus program of the CinemAsia Film Festival 2016 sets it’s spotlight on the Golden Horse Awards, the highest and most prestigious film awards in the world of Chinese-language cinema and often regarded as the Oscars for Chinese-language film. The Golden Horse Awards is the only event that brings all Chinese-language films under one umbrella, celebrating cinema.

MURMUR OF THE HEARTS was the opening film of the 2015 Hong Kong Film Festival and was nominated for three Golden Horse Awards. Set on the evocative Taiwanese prison island Lyudao, MURMUR OF THE HEARTS tells the stories of three young adults struggling to find their place in the world. Nan (Lawrence Ko) is a tour guide in Taitung, who hasn’t seen his sister Mei (Isabella Leong) since he was a kid and she was taken to Taipei by their mother. Mei is struggling as a painter, partially out of her desire to see her mother again and because of her rocky relationship with Hsiang (Joseph Chang Hsiao-Chuan). Meanwhile, Hsiang is trying to cope with his boxing career, which has been going downhill since he has been diagnosed with a detached retina. All three struggle with their self-image and self-worth, not realizing that the answer to their suffering lies in obstacles from the past.

Chang will be a guest of CinemAsia Film Festival 2016 to represent the Golden Horse awards and three feature films; she stars in OFFICE 華麗上班族 by Johnnie To, the opening film of the CinemAsia Film Festival, directed MURMUR OF THE HEARTS, and acted in Jia Zhangke’s highly acclaimed MOUNTAINS MAY DEPART 山河故人.

CinemAsia Film Festival Director, Lorna Tee about Sylvia Chang: “Sylvia Chang is one of the rare talents in the Chinese language film world, both in front of the camera as a film star, and behind the camera as director, scriptwriter and producer, to be able to command respect and admiration across China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and across all Chinese-language speaking territories. We are truly honoured to welcome her to Amsterdam and to present her outstanding body of work from 2015.”
