On 13th of August at 22.00, the first dvd-box Young Malaysia Collection will be hand out to Malaysian filmmaker Woo Ming Jin in cinema Rialto in Amsterdam. After this, his film Woman on Fire Looks for Water will be on screen followed by a Q&A.
The dvd-box Young Malaysia Collection contains five recent Malaysian films: My Daughter (Charlotte Lay Kuen Lim, 2009), Love Conquers All (Tan Chui Mui, 2006), Woman on Fire Looks for Water (Woo Ming Jin, 2009), At the End of Daybreak (Ho Yuhang, 2009) and Rain Dogs (Ho Yuhang, 2006). The collection contains also fifteen short films of different filmmakers including four shorts from these filmmakers.
The upcoming edition of Cinemasia 2010 will be held in Cinema Het Ketelhuis, Pazzanistraat 4,
Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam from 20st till 30th May.
Ook dit jaar presenteert het Filmmuseum weer het Hong Kong Film Panorama, een selectie van een aantal interessante Hongkong-titels van het afgelopen jaar. Op het programma staan actie- en fantasyproducties, coming-of-age drama’s, thrillers en twee non-fictiefilms. Speciale aandacht is er voor regisseur Tsui Hark, die met zijn wervelende producties in alle genres al sinds de jaren tachtig het beeld van de Hongkongse cinema bepaalt.

Coweb Premiere Martial Arts film COWEB op 9 juli 2009
De eerste release is direct een spectaculaire, namelijk de Chinese film COWEB. Coweb betekent voor actrice Jiang Lu Xia haar debuut op het witte doek. Na haar spectaculaire optredens en haar top drie notering in de megapopulaire show uit Hong Kong “The Disciple - Who becomes the next Jackie Chan?”, vertoont zij nu haar unieke vechtkunsten in dé Martial Art film van 2009 “Coweb”. Jiang Lu Xia wordt gezien als de beste vrouwelijke on-screen martial arts vechter van China. Haar bewegingen en vechtstijl zijn uniek en genieten in China en Hong Kong een enorme populariteit.
De film is gemaakt door Xiong Xin Xin, een zeer gerespecteerd acteur en stuntman in China en Hongkong. Hij is zijn carrière ooit gestart in de film “Once upon a time in China”, waarin hoofdrolspeler Jet Li zijn naam vestigde als mega action star.
De film Coweb zal vanaf 9 juli te zien zijn in Pathé Arena in Amsterdam, Pathé Spuimarkt in Den Haag en Pathé de Kuip in Rotterdam.
China Film Festival
From 5 to 7 May, ''China Film Festival 2009'' will be held in The Hague and Delft. In the meantime, seven selected Chinese films including Forever Enthralled, Assembly, Super Typhoon, Painted Skin, IP Man, Gun of Mercy and Maimaiti's 2008 will be presented.
On 5 May, the opening ceremony of the festival will be held in the city hall of The Hague and the film Forever Enthralled will be presented afterwards in Cinema Pathé. Besides Forever Enthralled, the other six films, which are all newly produced films and well known in China will be showed at Cinema Pathé in The Hague and Delft in the next two days.
Overseas Asian Film Festival Asiascope
The overseas asian filmfestival Asiascope will take place in theatre Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam from 23 till 25 April. The documentary Never Perfect from the Korean-American filmmaker Regina Park will open this festival.
In deze documentaire maakt u kennis met een andere kant van China. Niet de politieke onrusten, niet de Olympische Spelen en niet de economische vooruitgang staan hier centraal, maar wel de bijzondere wijze waarop Chinezen omgaan met ouder worden.
De documentaire neemt de kijker mee naar een klein stadspark waar elke ochtend honderden oude mensen bij elkaar komen om te sporten, te mediteren, opera te zingen, hun vogels te trainen of kalligrafie te beoefenen. Met hun activiteiten houden deze ouderen hun lichaam en geest fit – ze vertonen een grote levenshonger in hun latere jaren.
Ik Wil Oud Worden in China; belicht de passie, spontaniteit en de poëzie van mensen verenigd op een kleine plaats in Beijing. Intiem en oprecht vertelt de film het verhaal van een aantal vaste parkbezoekers, die ondanks hun leeftijd actief bezig zijn met het verwerven van nieuwe kennis.
Ik Wil Oud Worden in China is een documentaire van Smoke Signal Projects, een team van jonge documentairemakers uit Nederland, België en Canada.
Film in de buitenlucht: MUKHSIN Op 20 augustus is als voorproefje de populaire Maleisische film MUKHSIN te zien. De film opent het jaarlijkse Rialto in de openlucht! op het Amsterdamse Marie Heinekenplein. Regisseur Yasmin Ahmad vertelt in haar film over de verwarrende, vaak pijnlijke ervaring van een eerste liefde. Ze won hiermee onder andere de Kristallen Beer voor beste speelfilm, uitgereikt door de jeugdjury tijdens de Berlinale van 2007.
