| Articles: Beijing sees the sun |
It's over!
Things we will miss, things we look forward to embracing again. Will we come nack?
It is true!
It is true! Finally it has come true: Beijing sees the sun! Is it, or is it no coincidence that today is the first day in three weeks that we actually can look up, and point at the sky from a distance. More specifically: from below. Taxi drivers experience a rare chance to actually drive!
Things we cannot do without
We think we have everything. We think developing countries, especially China, could learn so much from just looking at our society. We know Holland is not perfect, but still! It would be so interesting and useful though, to organize guided excursions to things China has that we are in dire need of, but so far didn't know they are there.
Beyond the velvet rope
It is the day of the opening of my art show in Beijing. The entire space is still covered with a thick layer of dust though, when I arrive. It is not just the dust that evokes the sensation of old times coming alive.
Visiting Sun Village
Beijing is being torn down and built up in an incredible speed. Stumbling our way through constructions sites we undertake a trip to Sun Village, where we get stuffed with spaghetti and apricots.
A Lost and Wasted Day
A Very Dusty Day leads to an immense line of problems. What to do if nothing you undertake seems to work out the way you had in mind?
Namechange
How I got soaked, impressed, depressed, and felt the need to change my fate. Read on and find out more.
Anticipation
This is going to be my blog the next six weeks. First I have to try out how it works! Beijing is now but an image in my mind. Images of last year, images of anticipation. Fear that my drawings will be completely destroyed in the process of mounting them on silk, as well as joyful anticipation of meeting friends, eating hotpot in the hutong, and seeing my feet touch the Beijing sidewalk, all race through my mind.
A writing artist who likes to travel
I am an artist and a publicist. After having been a free lance journalist and sometimes illustrator for national newspapers, I founded a periodical for elementary schools about teaching gifted children. I was editor in chief and at first also illustrator for about six years, then I found other people to take over my tasks. The magazine now exists for about 17 years.
